A few months ago I was asked by FMcM Associates if I would like to review the LoveMyRead subscription. Always on the look out for new book related services that could appeal to many people I snapped up the chance.
I was lucky to receive a three month subscription which gave me plenty of chance to form an opinion.
Each month there is a curated selection of new releases to choose from. All you have to do is pick a title and by the 17th of each month the box will have have been dispatched. If you decide to give a subscription as a gift you can either choose the book or opt to have the recipient pick. The best bit is that if there’s not a book that takes your fancy that particular month you can either choose from previous months selections or bank that month and skip until the following one. I’ve not come across this before in other book subscriptions and I think it is one of the best aspects of LoveMyRead. There’s a chance to either get a copy of a book you have missed before but want to read or wait, rather than choosing a book you wouldn’t want to read just for the sake of it.
So what’s in the box? For my first month I chose a book that had been selected in a previous month. Because I’m awkward and also because I really want to read Agatha Christie by Lucy Worsley. So that’s what I picked. Along with the book I received some chocolate, snacks, tea and a little, lovely smelling candle.
For my second box I chose The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho by Paterson Joseph which came with many, many bars of chocolate (I’m definitely not complaining). For my final box I picked a signed copy of The Night Ship by Jess Kidd, which arrived with different chocolate, a drink, a choc pot, eye mask and another lovely little candle.
Prices start at £9.99 a month for the standard plan which is a brand new paperback each month. Premium is either £16.99 a month or £45 for three months. Children’s subscriptions are £11.99 for one month, £33.00 for a three month subscription, £62.00 for six months and £124.00 for 12 months. The monthly prices are a rolling contract and the block subscriptions auto-renew either every three months, six months or 12 months. Postage is extra and international shipping is available.
Would I recommend this box? Yes – I love the fact that you can select a title from a variety, have the option to chose from past selections or even skip a month. There should be something to cover a wide type of reading tastes and you even get a handy email reminding you to pick the next month’s book.
You can also buy books separately to subscriptions at a reduced price for subscribers.

*I received a three month subscription free of charge for review purposes. I did not receive any other money or incentive for writing this review and opinions are all my own. I do not receive any money or other payment for any purchases made as a result).
Not that I need any book subscriptions- I seem to do a good job of sending myself books more than once a month anyway! But it looks like a lovely gift idea.

I think it’s a lovely gift idea because the choice is there for the recipient so they should hopefully not receive something they won’t read.

Sounds like an excellent sub box Janet – I like the flexibility of the choices, and all that choccy is very appealing too….

No such thing as too much chocolate.

I’m definitely going to look into this as a birthday gift for a niece – it’s the ability to choose the book that attracts me. I’ve tried a few book subscription services before but ended up getting too many books that didnt interest me

That’s the trouble with a lot of subscriptions for me, either receiving something I wouldn’t like, or something I already have.
