Not as catchy as Love in the Time of Cholera I know but the aim of this post is to share details of independent bookshops and publishers who are still selling books via their website or telephone. The days were we can leisurely browse for an hour or three may be temporarily halted but that doesn’t mean we can’t still support our local bookshops and lose ourselves in fictionalised worlds. Books offer comfort for the lonely or for those surrounded by family. They can console, celebrate, uplift and enlighten, and during the current crisis the world finds itself in, this is even more important than ever.
Whilst it is tempting to use Amazon for many reasons, if you can afford to I would heartily recommend using an independent bookshop, especially at this crucial time. Many may not survive the lockdowns currently taking place and when we emerge, bleary-eyed from self-isolation, the world will be slightly sadder for their absence.
Hopefully you will have an independent bookshop local to you but if not many will post country wide (and sometimes even world wide). Independent bookshops are run by people passionate about books and who have an untapped mine of recommendations and information. Even if you can’t browse I’m in no doubt you’ll be able to discover new book treasure.

This list will be constantly updating and hopefully expanding as I come across more shops serving remotely. I’m also hoping to expand further than the UK and Ireland so if you have a favourite book shop anywhere in the world do let me know. And happy shopping and stay safe.
*I have not received any payment of discount for including any book shop or publisher on this list. The list is purely to help people still obtain books through this extraordinary situation the world finds itself in at present.*
Wonderful thing to do Janet – thank you! Books are definitely the things to keep us sane right now and we must support the smaller businesses!

This is great Janet! Could I suggest adding No Alibis Bookstore in Belfast, who need loads of support right now and who are a brilliant bunch of people – like most booksellers to be fair!
